Family Time: Initial Goodbyes

The weekend before all the volunteers went back to Santiago, our families had decided to have a gathering at the Vina Del Mar Botanical Garden. I opted to stay at home to have lunch with my Chilean family and did not know until we arrived that the BBQ was actually for the volunteers.

My Gringa cousins, chilean cousins, and other volunteers from our program.

Melissa and I pose with our Chilean host moms who are both quite fashionable.

We had fun playing a variation of dodgeball and duck, duck goose as well as other games. It was a very "tranquilo" afternoon and we were all starting to feel the sadness of saying goodbye to our large extended family.

Opposite team cheers their players on during a game of dodgeball.

Uncle works 2 jobs so took a nap at the park sleeping away like a baby.

Oh yeah, one of the 2 year olds, Sophia, tried to drive us home. It was hilarious as she turned the steering wheel, attempted to turn the radio on and shift into gear.
