Alcalde (Mayor) Nelson

(Papa Hugo, Melissa, ME!, Mayor Nelson in quaint home)

Nelson, who is only 35 years old, is married with 3 children. He has a full time maid (which is not uncommon to have a maid at least a couple days for many families who appear to be middle or upper class in Chile). Roman is quite happy with being offered a warm breakfast from the maid even if he is the last one up in the morning. Although we cannot understand the mayor nor most of the maids in Chile (because of how they mumble, how quickly they speak and/or the slang they use), he is very friendly. He also appears to dress the least formal out of everyone in his office with his hiking boots and winter sports fleece. Most people knew him for quite a while and everyone in the town seems to know each other well since there are so few people.

Update: Because Roman was offered a place to stay with the mayor 2 days before we were informed that we were moving out to Valpo where we had formal housing/school placements, Roman was a bit scared about how that conversation would go with the mayor as he would have to decline his invitation. We were told that the mayor has a bit of a temper. We theorized that perhaps the mayor would invite Roman for a walk and perhaps throw him down the tallest hill in Calle Larga or bury him somewhere as it is very dark at night in Calle Larga.

However, it was probably good thing since Roman had taken over the mayor's 18-year-old daughter's room and she stayed with her 2 little siblings. (See Above, Roman in his girlie room!)

It all ended well and the mayor even gave Roman a hug when he left.
